Observational mode:

This short film is about an art exhibition by the artist and conceptual photographer Keith Arnatt, in it there is audio of him talking about his works and footage of the self taught photographer David Hurn discussing Keith Arnatt's workings and personal view of photography and art. Specifically, one of Arnatt's works 'Miss Grace's Lane'. This is one of my inspirations for my own photo essay, as the NIMBY aspect of these photo's, intended or not assists my creative vision as I wish my photo essay to portray as gritty an image and or message about human neglect and carelessness as I can create.

Here is an example of a promotional stills film:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/audioslideshow/2011/oct/25/travelfoodanddrink-oliver?INTCMP=SRCH

It is very basic in the context of the photos are shown happen the literal meanings of the words spoken in the narration, leaving no room for interpretation of a different or hidden meaning.

Observational and Politically reflexive modes:

Here is an example of a promotional stills documentary by Seamus Murphy, titled A Darkness Visible: Afghanistan From the website Media Storm.com

This promotional documentary about a stills film is a much more significant documentary than the previous example because it contains more truth than opinion, futhermore it contains more harsh truth's i.e. NIMBY, as it is about Afghanistan, of which as a passive audience we have learned to gloss over the headlines that portray to us a mainly one sided angle.

This is a Link to a series of photographs by Keith Arnatt specifically the 'Cardboard Box' series. This is going to be helpful to me as in which direction to go in with my photo essay, as in addition to a bleak message about human neglect, I wish to portray a message of the effect of capitalism.

With searing precision and emotional honesty, New York Reacts places us right in Manhattan, two days after the Twin Towers fell. We hear as New Yorkers try to make sense of their anger and understand the unimaginable. See the project at http://mediastorm.com/publication/new-york-reacts

Observational and politically reflexive modes:

This short documentary by Ray Farkas about the aftermath of a terrorist attack portrays truth and harsh reality which I intend to iimpliment into my photo essay.

Observational mode:

This short documentary again portrays grim reality, this specifically portrays an image of nature corrupted with the massive volume of rubbish recycling that goes through the recycling plant every day.
