Idea 1 - East Anglia Children’s Hospice

EACH is a charitable organization that supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. They provide care and support wherever the family wishes – in families’ own homes, in hospital or at one of their hospices in Ipswich, Milton and Quidenham.’ This care and support includes short break care, Hydrotherapy, Care at end of life and Bereavement support for all family members. This documentary could focus around one of their three hospice’s, Treehouse is there Ipswich branch and there newest providing state of art facilities for the use by the children and their families. The idea would be to follow the family’s and the children as they go about their daily life’s living with life limiting conditions, following them as they live within the grounds of Treehouse and how the money raised by EACH is there to ensure these children get the quality of live they deserve. A combination of modes would best suit a documentary like this, using the expository mode to guide the audience through a situation like this is important, with lots of issues that need care and controlled approach is necessary with something like this. Political reflexivity is also important as the main attraction to a story like this is issues and developing the audience awareness to something like this.
The Zebras of Jack Tizard is a short documentary film
that is a great example of how an issue like this could be shot and presented.  It is a portrait of five profoundly disabled children who transcend their condition with an interest in the world around them. Supported by their parents and charismatic teachers, their lives are unconventional and inspirational. With this short documentary film we see both the Performative and Expository Mode being applied as there is essence of a ‘window in live’ being shown however it is one guided to us by male voiceovers throughout on specific views.

Tree house would be the location where we could film the documentary, Treehouse hospice in Ipswich has six bedrooms for children and young people and accommodation for families to use for overnight stays. There is a multi-sensory studio, hydrotherapy pool, music room, play areas, sensory garden, a woodland walk and specialist outdoor play equipment.

Idea 2 - Oyo – King and Student

Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, King Oyo, is the reigning Omukama of Toro, in Uganda. He was born on 16 April 1992 to King Patrick David Mathew Kaboyo Olimi III and Queen Best Kemigisa Kaboyo. Three and half years later in 1995, Oyo ascended the throne and succeeded his father to become the 12th ruler of the 180 year old Kingdom of Toro and is currently the youngest ruling monarch in the world. Now Oyo is currently studying Business Management at University here in England, this is where the documentary could begin as it explores how he has taken time out to study, exploring how his life has dramatically changed from being a King to a normal undergraduate. This idea would be best approached with an observation mode style, as a true story like this does not need interference as the filmmaker could step back and follow Oyo as he jets back and forth from Uganda to England as he managed a double life from doing official public business in Uganda to studying back here in England.

As George/Oyo is a friend I am able to speak to him directly on Facebook or by other means to discuss any future involvement as a primary.

Fact meets fiction and myth rivals reality to tell the fascinating story of Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, from his exile as a boy-king through his glorious return as a republican politician to his fall from grace in one of the greatest experiments of democracy today. This documentary theme is an approach that could be taken with a documentary like Oyo – King and Student.

Idea 3 - Islam’s New Home

The Madina Mosque is a Muslim mosque that is in Southampton in Hampshire. It is one of the main mosques within the city with prey rooms able to hold 1500 people, it works with other mosques in the area to help strength the Muslim community in Southampton. The documentary could tell the fascinating story with regards to the people that make up the Muslim community and based around the Medina Mosque as a central point of gathering. With such a negative portrayal within the media the Muslim community faces times of great hardship and it is only by how they have a strong bond as a community that they are able to fight against this image. This image is something though of the minority of this ethic group just like any other religion has their own. Documenting on key people like the Imam of the mosque as well as just normal people who practice the region there.

Madina Mosque has all its contacts on his website, the CEO and directors are potention primary's.
